The Department of Economics at Dartmouth College invites applications for an Economic Research Specialist in Youth Transitions. This is a full-time pre-doctoral fellow position in applied microeconomics. The fellow will work directly with Professor Eric Edmonds and additional co-investigators in the development of new research and the completion of ongoing projects, focusing on topics related to transitions from youth to adulthood in contemporary low-income environments and U.S. economic history. Applicants for this position should have a strong quantitative background, programming skills, and a long-term interest in pursuing a Ph.D. in economics, education, or public policy. The position is suited for applicants who will have completed their undergraduate degree by the summer of 2026 with coursework related to econometrics and have a demonstrated interest in economics subfields such as development economics, labor economics, or economic history.

The Michael G. Fisch 1983 Academic Cluster on Globalization at Dartmouth College invites applications for an Economics Research Specialist, at the rank of postgraduate research associate, to work for one year on topics related to globalization with Professor Treb Allen. The position is made possible by the endowed funds of the Globalization Cluster, which seeks to promote scholarship on the far-reaching repercussions of globalization on world markets, governments, trade, and society. Applicants should have a strong quantitative background and an enthusiastic interest in applying this background to the evaluation and design of better economic policy.

Responsibilities include:

• Assisting Globalization Cluster faculty with research, including processing and analyzing large datasets and coding necessary to implement related economic models.
• Taking Dartmouth courses to prepare for graduate school.
• Participating in weekly internal and external seminars of the Globalization Cluster.
• Administrative support for Globalization Cluster, including updating the cluster website and helping to coordinate the seminars.

Economics Research Specialists (ERSs) work with department faculty supporting and conducting scholarly research and teaching in anticipation of advancing their skills and experience to prepare for the next stage of their careers. ERSs are expected to contribute to all stages of research – including research design, literature searches, conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data and writing reports and papers. ERSs may also have the opportunity to contribute in the classroom or in laboratory sections of courses, helping undergraduate students with labs, review sessions, paper editing and grading certain assignments.

Responsibilities include:

• Writing statistical package code to manage, prepare, and analyze large and complex datasets.

• Preparing research output including producing data visualizations, managing research manuscripts, and constructing replication materials.

ERSs who are working in residence in Hanover, NH are eligible for Graduate Special Student status and the ability to take certain Dartmouth courses with the tuition paid by Dartmouth as a working condition fringe benefit. The benefit covers a maximum of 1 course per academic year the ERS is employed at the College.

Dartmouth College is soliciting applications for its Globalization Postdoctoral Fellows program for academic year 2026/27. The position pays a competitive academic year salary, and provides an office in the Economics Department, a small research fund and moving costs. The obligations of the selected Fellow are to be in residence at Dartmouth for the academic year and to take part in the normal research-related activities of the Economics Department (seminars/lunches etc.), and to interact with the trade and broader economics faculty in the Department and at Tuck School of Business. We expect that the successful candidate will have accepted a tenure-track assistant professorship and can put off his/her start date for a year to be spent at Dartmouth.

The Society of Fellows at Dartmouth College invites applications for two-year postdoctoral fellowships. These fellowships foster the academic careers of scholars who have recently received their Ph.D. degrees. Fellows pursue their research while gaining mentored experience as teachers and members of the departments or programs in which they are housed. In addition, fellows participate in the Society alongside other postdoctoral scholars and Dartmouth faculty in a spirit of multidisciplinary learning and mutual enrichment. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research is innovative and transcends traditional disciplinary divides.

For the 2026-2028 cohort, we seek candidates for a fellowship in the Department of Economics, with specialization in economic history. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research involves novel approaches to large-scale historical data and intersects with other applied fields like labor, public finance, and political economy.

Society Postdoctoral Fellows

• participate in the activities of the Society, including presenting their own work and engaging with the work of others
• hold an appointment as a Lecturer in a department or program as well as Postdoctoral Fellow in the Society; this appointment is not tenure-track
• teach one course over the course of the two-year fellowship
• are in residence for the fall, winter, and spring terms
• receive training in teaching via the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning (DCAL)
• have access to college resources such as the libraries, Hood Museum, Jones Media Center, and computing resources
• do not control dedicated laboratory or studio space
• do not participate in off-campus research leave during academic terms
